Due to the unusually hot temperatures so early in the season, combined with fluctuating river levels, District crews are dealing with a heavier-than-normal algae buildup that has developed much sooner in our season than we typically see.

The algae is forming a thick blanket over the intake screens at the pump station, restricting water flow and preventing the pumps from operating properly.

The Gravity Canal is currently shut down while crews clean the intake screens and work to get the pumps restarted. We are hopeful water service will be restored this afternoon.

Areas affected include:
• Redwood Avenue area
• Across the river north through the Greenwood Avenue area
• Lower River Road area
